How do I know if we need couples therapy?

If you're asking, it's probably worth a conversation. You don't need to be in crisis. Most couples come in because they're stuck in a pattern they can't break on their own. Feeling disconnected, having the same fight, walking on eggshells. Those are all good enough reasons.

What happens in the first session?

We talk about what brought you in. I ask about your relationship, how you met, how things shifted. I'm listening for the pattern. There's no pressure to get into the hardest stuff right away.

How long does couples therapy take?

It depends. Some couples feel a real shift in 8-12 sessions. More complex situations usually take 16-24 sessions. We check in regularly and adjust. I'm not trying to keep you in therapy forever.

Do you take sides?

No. I'm on the side of your relationship, not either of you individually. That said, I'll be honest with both of you when something needs to be named.

What if my partner doesn't want to come?

This comes up a lot. Sometimes one partner is more ready than the other. We can talk through it on a consultation call. Framing it as 'I want us to try this together' usually lands better than 'you need to be fixed.'

Yes. Love is love. I work with couples of all orientations and gender identities.

Can we do therapy online?

Yes. I offer virtual sessions. Many couples prefer it. You can do therapy from your living room without the commute.

What's your cancellation policy?

48 hours notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or no-shows are charged the full session fee.

What's the difference between EFT and Gottman?

EFT focuses on the emotional bond between you. Gottman gives you practical tools for communication and conflict. I use both.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, with limited legal exceptions: imminent danger to self or others, child or elder abuse, or a court order. I use HIPAA-compliant systems for everything.
